Cologne and Reims
Bruno was born in Cologne, one of the most famous cities in Europe at the time, approximately in 1030. Very young (around 1045) he moves to Reims, capital city of the region of Champagne (France), small but renowned for its cathedral and the school within its walls. The Church and university fascinate Bruno very soon. He excels in philosophy and in theology to the point that Herimann, rector of the Cathedral's school, wants him to be his heir. Bruno becomes rector of the school of Reims; he is still younger than thirty. |
